Giving Back Assignment
What we did
We worked with the non-profit organization, The Lupus Foundation, to help them promote the “Walk to End Lupus Now”. We did this by preparing and posting on social media to help get the word out about the event. The goal was to help create awareness and increase the attendance, along with increased reach and engagement on social media.
Social media has become one of the most valuable tools in promotion. It allows you to create events, and invite all of your friends. As people view and engage with the event it allows their friends to see it as well which increases reach, and engagements as events go viral. We wanted to use this valuable tool to promote The Walk to End Lupus Now.
This assignment was a lot of fun, we were able to directly apply the things that we learned in class to a real project for a real organization. We had a great group that was able to put together some really meaningful posts. Time was limited but we still saw increased engagement and reach for the social media posts that were delivered to users. The main lesson learned was that it takes months of preparation to adequately promote an event and especially if you are going to be using social media.
